Goodbye Mrs. Durrant!!!

I helped Molly with this project to make a giant goodbye card for Mrs. Durrant. During this project, I helped take pictures and also got people to sign the card. When we deliver the card, I will also be recording a video (to be posted later). During this project, there were not many challenges except for getting people to sign the card. I saw this coming, and to counter this, I asked my friends to come sign the card in advanced. This helped ensure that there were signatures from the class of 2013, who had Mrs. Durrant her first year at AHS. Everything else has gone well so far. All we must do now is deliver the card and to say our final goodbyes. Molly and I worked well together. This was not our first project, so we knew each other and this helped ensure that the project got done. I have other projects coming up over the summer that are not school related, including attending NSLC and WLC, and volunteering at the Library.

Cartridges For Kids!

I completed this project with Rangsey. We completed the first stages of this project, but it will continue into next year. So far it has been very successful. We were able to collect, sort, then package used ink cartridges that would then be used to create profit that will benefit children in need. During this project, it was hard to determine the type of cartridge, but after some time Rangsey and I were able to solve the problem. We were able to sort and package the cartridges in a timely manner. In order to keep this project running smoothly, Rangsey and I must continue to spread the word through the summer and into the start of next year. This will ensure that we will continue to have a source of cartridges. As a helper in this project, I helped make posters, take pictures, packaged cartridges, and helped spread the word of this project. Rangsey and I worked will together, and she was a good leader. I also helped Molly with her "Goodbye Mrs. Durrant Project."

Alpaca This! Road Clean-up

This road clean-up was even more successful than the last time! It exceeded my expectations, and was a huge success! Completing this project made me and my helpers feel like we were contributing to the community! One thing that went wrong was that some of the volunteers forgot to bring boots. I foresaw this and brought a couple extra pair, but it still wasn't enough for everyone. However, that didn't stop us! We still completed the project even with some not having boots to wear. Besides that, everything went well. The weather was sunny and we were able to help improve the environment and make the community a better place for everyone! On my next project, I would like to plan it more in advanced so more people have more time to work it into their schedule. I might also get more volunteers. My group worked will together and I was able to help my group keep a good pace while cleaning. This allowed us to complete on time. I am currently helping Rangsey with her "Cartridges for Kids" project and Molly with her "Goodbye Mrs. Durrant" project. I have also set a goal to achieve 100 hours of community service within the next year.

In Rangsey's project, I will be making posters and getting the word out, and will also help pack the cartridges into boxes. Her project is ongoing, so I will constantly be involved.

In Molly's project, my main job is to take pictures and also to get people to sign the card. I will also record the delivery of the card.

More reflections to come soon!!!

SUCCESS!!! Post-Project Reflection

Operation Bookkeeper

This project went well, but not as well as I wanted it to. In terms of work, we did better than last time, but as a group, we faced many problems. When everything was done, I felt happy with the end result and how well the project went. A couple of things went wrong during this project. One was that some of the people didn't show up! Olivia and Milia were not able to make it to the library because of car trouble. This made each group a person short. This was something that couldn't be foreseen or controlled. However, many things also went well with this project. Ariel and I were able to teach many library patrons how to use the new self check-in system. Lea was also able to improve the conditions of the library shelves. If we had more people, this project would have been even more successful, and we would've gotten more work done. By getting more people to volunteer, those extra people will compensate for those who don't show up or have a sudden change in plans. While working at the library, I got the opportunity to interact with the public and practice my speaking skills with strangers. At first, I wasn't very successful, but after a couple of attempts, I was able to convince many people to try the system. Ariel also helped convince people too. My next project will be a local road clean-up. Stay tuned for more information.

Milestone #1 (Alpaca This! Road Clean-up)

I was successful with meeting this milestone goal. I was able to get all people to commit to my project and I was also able to give them the paperwork necessary to participate in the project. I am now prepared for this Saturday when they come to volunteer. I must remind the people to return with the necessary paperwork or else they won't be able to work.

Alpaca This! Road Clean-Up

This project is the Alpaca This! Road Clean-Up. It will take place on May 14 and end on the same day.  I must have all the volunteers confirmed by the 12 of May, so that will be my milestone date. Kelly J., owner of Alpaca This!, will be the advisor for this project. Driving along the road, trash can always be seen. By participating in this project, people can help make our community a greener and happier place for both the humans and the animals. A clean road makes everyone happy. My goal with this project is to not only improve the environment, but I would also like to show the community that the next generation is dedicated to making this world a better place one road at a time!

There are not many obstacles while accomplishing this project, but they can still be seen. One big problem is the weather. The weather is unpredictable and can make our clean-up extremely hard. Going into the project, we are hoping that the sun will be shining and that it won't rain. If it does rain, I will remind the volunteers to bring rain gear and boots. This will make allow us to complete the project rain or shine.

I must have all people confirmed by May 12 so I can give them the required paperwork that will be returned on the 14th. This will be my one and only milestone date before the project is over.

I will achieve this goal of having all people confirmed by reminding them constantly that I need them to commit to my project. Then, once they have said they will come, I will give them the paperwork needed to participate.

Materials needed for the clean-up will be provided by King County and other materials need to be brought by the participants. These include boots and rain gear (if the weather is bad)

No other materials will be needed, and no special skills are required.

The people helping me with this project are:
Milia K.
Nicole R.
Emily C.
Lina L.
Rangsey T.
Lea O.

My plan for success will be to split the group into two smaller ones, and then one group will start picking up trash at one end of the road, and the other will start at the opposite end. The groups will then meet in the middle. This will be effective and will help the task go faster.

Milestone #1 Reflection Operation Bookkeeper! ~March 30~

This goal was extremely hard to meet. I had a ton of people cancel last minute, which made me have to find previous volunteers who already had their background checks done. I was also able to turn in the forms for new volunteers.
